When on-site group fitness classes were canceled last year, Power For Life Fitness needed to get creative. We prioritized working with our properties to continue to offer fitness and wellness services that the residents could utilize in a way that made them feel safe and comfortable. Today, we are highlighting one way we partnered with a property on a virtual wellness challenge to keep residents engaged and excited about improving their health.
Earlier this year, the Harrison at Reston Town Center in Reston, VA approached us to see if we would be willing to offer a virtual challenge. While a challenge like this could be as simple as tracking and recording the number of workouts you complete or virtual fitness classes you attend, we tried to think outside the box and came up with a 3-week Clean Eating Challenge.
Each week the residents focused on a different aspect of clean eating. Week One was all about cleaning out the pantry, refining your grocery list and tracking caffeine intake. Week Two zeroed in on fighting cravings by increasing daily intake of fruits and vegetables, limiting snacking and reducing refined sugars. And Week Three focused on hydration. We asked residents to document their progress with us over the three weeks, with weekly winners named each week and one grand prize winner announced at the end.
Overall, the Clean Eating Challenge was a success! We had 50 residents participate over the course of the three weeks, an incredibly strong turnout, thanks to the short duration and the prizes offered. Weekly prizes included gift cards to Harris Teeter and Starbucks, plus stretching bands or a free stretch session from our partner go*Stretch. Then the grand prize winner received $350 worth of gifts and prizes from wellness brands including Potomac River Running, Athleta, Fitbit and Vegetable + Butcher. We were thrilled to get so many residents excited about changing their eating habits for the better.
