As a company, Power For Life Fitness is committed to helping the residents of our properties achieve a holistic idea of fitness and wellness. We believe that being fit is not just about being physically strong, as fitness can be mental, emotional, spiritual, financial, social, and countless other qualifiers. Fitness is also not just an individual endeavor either; the fitness and wellness of the community are just as important. To that end, we pulled our amazing team together and did our best to give back to the community throughout 2019. And now, during this special season of giving, we are taking a look at what we did over the past year and recommitting ourselves to giving back in 2020.
We Fed the Hungry
Power For Life Fitness partnered with multiple organizations this year that provide food for the less fortunate. We helped the Capital Area Food Bank distribute produce to qualifying DC residents at the DC Community Market. We delivered meals from Martha’s Table to the homes of seniors who rely on them for meals on the weekends. We helped Bethesda Cares set up, prepare and serve hot meals to the homeless and working poor in the community. We acted as sous chefs at the DC Central Kitchen, cutting, chopping and peeling produce that would have been wasted otherwise that the organization then turned into meals for homeless shelters, rehab clinics, halfway houses and after school programs. Through these volunteer opportunities we were able to help those who are hungry enjoy a hearty, filling and nutritious meal.
We Supported Child Development and Growth
Power For Life Fitness team members volunteered at the Girls on the Run 5K, the celebratory culmination of the Girls on the Run program. This ten-week program helps girls in the third to eighth grade build inner strength, confidence and an appreciation for health and supporting the community, while also teaching them how to physically and emotionally prepare for an event like a 5K race. We were happy to support them in completing their journey with the program!
We Fundraised for Cancer Research
Power For Life Fitness took part in Cycle for Survival, an indoor cycling fundraising event that raises money to benefit research being done on rare cancers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Cycle for Survival focuses on rare cancers because about half of all people fighting cancer have a rare cancer yet find themselves with limited or no treatment options because research has been severely underfunded. So to show our support, we were happy to hop on a bike at their 2019 event in Washington, D.C. and join the battle.
Despite being primarily a fitness company, Power For Life Fitness prides itself on our team members’ abilities to build and foster community relationships, something we consider an essential component of achieving health and wellness. During this festive holiday season, we’ll be enjoying our relationships while being surrounded by friends and family who are part of our communities, and we hope you do the same!
